Children's Exams

Newborn and Children's Screening Services

At the Sullivan County Regional Health Department, we offer essential newborn screening tests that go beyond just PKU (Phenylketonuria), thyroid disorders, and sickle cell. Our screening now includes several additional tests that can detect disorders that might otherwise go unnoticed. Early detection of these conditions allows for timely treatment, which can prevent serious complications such as vision issues, developmental delays, seizures, and even death.

For more information on newborn screening and the specific tests we offer, please visit our Newborn Screening Section.

Children's Exams and EPSDT Services

We provide comprehensive children’s exams that include reviews of the immunizations required for each age group. For children on TennCare, up to the age of 21, we offer EPSDT exams (Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment). These exams are thorough, consisting of seven components that evaluate the child’s overall development and growth. Detecting potential health issues early on can help prevent more serious complications later in life.

TennCare EPSDT Exam:

The EPSDT exam is a head-to-toe assessment that helps ensure proper developmental milestones are being met. By identifying any concerns early, our team can intervene with appropriate treatment and support services to prevent complex health issues.

Head Lice Exams and Tips

If your child has been exposed to head lice, we can conduct a head lice examination. Our team will also provide helpful advice and strategies for managing and controlling head lice to prevent further spread and discomfort.
