Our Story

Creating Healthier and Safer Communities For Nearly 100 Years

The Sullivan County Regional Health Department (SCRHD) serves a population of 156,535 in Northeast Tennessee. We have a workforce of 85 and serve the communities of Kingsport, Bristol, Bluff City, and Piney Flats within the confines of Sullivan County. The county’s first Health Unit was established in 1928 in the Blountville Courthouse basement.

After several moves and upgrades over our history, the SCRHD became a Metropolitan Region on July 1, 1989. We currently operate a Blountville Bypass location that opened in 1994 and a Kingsport location now at the corner of Wilcox Drive and East Sullivan Street since 2006.
