Infant Botulism - ByHeart Whole Nutrition

ALERT

The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH), in collaboration with state and federal public health partners, is investigating a multistate outbreak of infant botulism associated with ByHeart Whole Nutrition infant formula. Healthcare providers should consider infant botulism in infants presenting with unexplained constipation, poor feeding, diminished suck, difficulty swallowing, or loss of head control, and should obtain a detailed feeding history, including the specific formula brand used.

For clinical consultation and potential release of the infant botulism antitoxin (BabyBIG), providers should contact the California Infant Botulism Treatment & Prevention Program at 510-231-7600. Suspected cases must be reported to the Tennessee Department of Health at 615-741-7247.
